Does this hypothetical trade involving Patriots WR N’Keal Harry make sense? originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
The NFL trade deadline is scheduled for Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. ET, and the New England Patriots could be one team to keep a close eye on as that date approaches.
The Patriots are 2-4 entering Sunday’s Week 7 game against the New York Jets, and Bill Belichick’s team has several roster needs it should try to address before the trade deadline.
Another cornerback would help. A wide receiver with some speed and deep-play potential is a need, too. The offensive line has been ravaged by injuries and could use more depth.

What about a linebacker?
ESPN’s Bill Barnwell came up with a few hypothetical trades with the deadline nearing, and one that he proposed involved the Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Here’s his mock trade:
Jaguars get: WR N’Keal Harry, 2022 fourth-round pick, 2023 sixth-round pick
Patriots get: OLB K’Lavon Chaisson, 2023 fifth-round pick
Chaisson, like Harry, is a former first-round draft pick (2020) who’s failed to meet expectations.
Harry caught just 33 passes in 14 games last season. He’s tallied two receptions for 19 yards in three games this year. He’s not been the red zone threat his size and strength would suggest, and injuries have limited his availability over the last two-plus years.
It’s pretty clear Harry is not going to produce at the level you’d want out of a first-round pick. It’s not a bad idea to part ways, especially if you can get a talented defensive player in return.
Rodney Harrison: Patriots linebackers ‘are slow’
Chaisson has posted eight solo tackles and one sack through six games with the Jaguars in 2021. He’s listed at 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds. He’s also just 22 years old.
The Patriots’ linebacker corps is not very young. Jamie Collins is 32 years old. Dont’a Hightower is 31. Kyle Van Noy in 30. Matthew Judon, who’s playing at an elite level in his first season with the team, is 29. Linebacker is a very important position where the Patriots definitely could use more youth and athleticism.
Cornerback and the offensive lineman are probably the two most glaring needs on the Patriots roster, but this hypothetical trade from Barnwell makes a lot of sense for both sides.
